These programs can be done at home or away from home.

The common thread for all of these programs is FUN.

At home children are encouraged to participate in healthy and active activities such as playing active games, play active video games like “WII Fit” or “Dance Dance Revolution”. They also could play sports suitable to their age such as soccer baseball or basketball.

The other important aspect of weight loss programs for children is nutrition. Kids have specific nutritional needs that must be considered. They are always growing after all. There are camps kids can go to where they can lose weight. The campers are fed healthy and delicious meals they will enjoy. They are also given plenty of fun outdoor activities such as nature hikes, swimming, and obstacle courses.

These camps are important for overweight children because they are surrounded by people who are sensitive to the same issues. You rarely hear of any bullying at these special camps.  As a result the kids develop social skills that will aid them when they return.

The camps also often focus on essential life skills like team building and problem solving. Though the use of active games and challenge the kids learn how to help each other, take leadership, and come up with solutions together as a group.

Whether you choose to start a program at home, or enroll your child in a camp the most important thing to remember is to encourage a healthy lifestyle for your kids.  Learning the values of healthy living will go a long way to an joyful and interesting life.
