Internal Preparation

If you’re reading this it is unlikely the first time you have thought of, or really tried to lose weight. There may have been any number of reasons you didn’t succeed. But the chances are good that it was something inside of yourself that hampered your success.

We all have our reasons as to why we fail but when we really look into our heart we see them for exactly what they are: Excuses.

Excuses for challenges that we didn’t have the will or heart to overcome. It is these excuse making parts of ourselves that make weight loss the most challenging to us.

By taking the time to properly prepare our internal environment we can make things incredibly easy on ourselves by turning our worst enemy into our greatest asset.

Fortunately you don’t need intense psychotherapy to do this. But you do need to try to make yourself aware of your internal enemies. You need to take the time to ask yourself and maybe even write down the aspects of yourself that could prevent your success.

Here are a few examples to get you started:

  • I’m not strong inside- I crumble when others doubt or make fun of my weight loss efforts
  • I’m not solid in my self respect – I make food choices so I can fit in with the people around me.
  • I live my life for others – I’m only losing weight because someone else wants me to
  • Low belief in self – I already believe I will fail before I even start
  • Ideally you’ll want to work on these problems before you start losing weight. However, should you want to continue onto a weight loss program keeping the list you’ve made will help immeasurably.

When things get tough and you start to notice yourself making excuses, seeing the list will remind you that this your inner voice preventing your own success. By choosing to find a solution to continue instead of a reason to give up you take advantage of an opportunity to overcome an internal obstacle and grow as a person.

There is more to internal change then I could ever hope to cover here in a simple blog post. The best I can do is to tell you that internal struggles are a huge hurdle when it comes to weight loss but by being continually aware of them you greatly increase your odds of success.
