As a beginner you’re probably feeling pretty determined to lose weight. That feeling is so great because it gets you started and sustains you your first few days and sometimes even weeks. Of course, as I’ve already alluded to, that feeling doesn’t last. You may doubt me, and that’s okay. The longer you can keep that feeling the better.
But the truth is that for many, many people that feeling disappears; and do you know what the saddest part is? When it does, people give up.
I’m not saying this to dissuade you from your goals. You just need to be aware. This is one of the biggest pitfalls of all dieters and weight loss would have beens.
The good news is that it is entirely preventable. Being aware of the problem is 1/2 the battle. The following 3 solutions should cover the other 1/2. in the spirit of “beginnerness” these solutions can be integrated into any weight loss program, plan, or diet.
1 – Be Realistic
Weight loss is not a short walk in the park. It is many walks in the park over a long period of time. Results will come, but everyones window is too short term to realize how long it actually takes to lose weight so don’t be down when things don’t work out as quickly as you expected.
2-Notice the Positives
Weight loss may be your goal, but there are many other positive changes that happen in your life as you work towards your goal. You’ll notice your mind will be sharper, you’ll feel more motivated then usual, you’ll have new and exciting experiences with food and lifestyle.
3-Remind Yourself
If you lose sight of your dream it will slip away. Too many people get started then lose sight of their want to lose weight when life takes over. For this reason you need to do things to remind yourself of why you wanted to lose weight in the first place. Post a note some place you will see it every day, buy a special bracelet to remind you to eat healthy when out to dinner, promise yourself you will keep a daily journal about your efforts.
The combination of these 3 solutions will leave you stronger and more motivated. They will give you sustained, long term motivation that will see you though to your weight loss goals.
